Questions for New Puppy Parents

It is very important to know for sure you do want a tiny little dog like a Chihuahua, who can be easily intimidated by small children who grab for it or handle it roughly, or bigger dogs who may decide its a play toy. A Chihuahua has dignity and wants respect just like a bigger dog. On the other hand she should also be taught manners in just the same way as a bigger dog and not let to get away with being a yappy and snappy- which gives Chihuahuas a bad reputation.. because some people are afraid to discipline them at all.  Below are some questions I would like prospective puppy parents to answer so I will know the puppy will have a safe and happy and loving forever home...

I very much prefer a tiny Chihuahua doesn't go to a home with small children under 7. But if you have children of several ages... can you be sure to be with them when they handle the puppy, so it is not dropped or teased?. Or have a responsible older child with the younger one them when they pick up the puppy?

Do you have a little exercise puppy play pen-- so that the puppy can be kept safe during the day when you are not home, with its bed and a puppy pad, so it won't wander around and chew on electric cords?

If this is a young puppy, can you keep it away from where other dogs have gone potty, or playing with strange dogs until its had its final puppy shots, so it doesn't catch something from them?

Do you have a fenced yard where it can play safely?  If not will you be sure to have an exercise area fenced off, (just a small one for a Chihuahua) so it can go out and go potty and not run out in the road or get lost? Or take it out on a leash?.. since if you don't have a fenced yard or a pen and a big dog happens to run through the yard or something scares your puppy, he may be very hard to find if he runs off and hides under bushes or into a yard with a mean dog.

If you ever have to part with your little companion, and you can't find another loving home for her, will you be sure not to send her to an animal shelter where she may be killed, but return him to me so I can find her a new home?

If you can answer these questions with a Yes, then I will feel assured that this little Chihuahua will have a good and safe new home.
